Types of Spring
Types of Spring :- A spring is an metal wire that has quite good elastic property by which it compress extends or rotates as the force is applied on the spring components. A spring mechanism can exert pressure, rotational force or pulling in some ways. Spring mechanism involvement gives product an advantage for different application purpose.
Material of Construction
Springs are made from a variety of elastic materials, the most common being spring steel. Small springs can be wound from pre-hardened stock, while larger ones are made from annealed steel and hardened after fabrication. Some non-ferrous metals are also used including phosphor bronze and titanium for parts requiring corrosion resistance.
Types of Spring
1. Compression, coil or helical Spring
These are the types of mechanical spring uses very often in the valves, suspension & even in ball point pens on the shaft of round hole where some force to be applied for spring action. Mechanical spring may be used to achieve the different configuration.
2. Torsion, Torsional Spring
These are the steel mechanical springs that uses radial direction where force is acting in radial direction whenever rotated.
Torsion spring basically work by placing a torsion spring over the shaft then fastened their one side legs or fixed the end with help of plate or the pin to ensure the other end can rotate & gives you the rotational force. Torsion spring rotational force increase with the rotation in radial direction.
This means to say that is high degree of rotation (radially) is to acted for generation of rotational force ( acted on to the unfastened leg).
3. Extension or Tension Spring
They are the wire types mechanical spring used in garage door, pull levers etc. or any place where pulling force comes into play ( to be applied).
Extension spring are equipped with a hook provision that purpose is to place them on to the shaft over a pin or through hole. Hook provision can be modified as per the requirement of application. They can also be comes without hook instead of that come with threaded screw or bolt into the internal diameter of spring so that one end can be fastened with the help of bolting.
4. Garter spring, Oil seal spring, Spring belt
These are the mechanical rounded shape formed spring. Basically these are coil spring form in continuous circle. Garter spring are often used in rubber seal while oil spring & spring belt requires the provision non slip belting (slip resistant). These spring gives an outside force exerted ( in radial direction) when expanding the circular spring the force will generate and contracted spring in position to back to original diameter as earlier. That’s why garter spring are greater when they are to used in rubber seals or urethane seals.
Garter spring mainly consist of belts that purpose is to held some pressure on the seal. These belts can also equipped with non slip belts type when there is presence of oil- emulsion or some syrups. They can be made as connectable or continuous while in case of spring steel likes of SS 302 or 17/7 SS material of construction. 17-7 SS is used when there is high temperature spring belt to be used.
The non slip types belt comes with different configuration such as connector end or taper ends.
